SUPER HIKER SPOTLIGHT: LINDA JONES

by Sue-Ann Roades

Linda Jones, a medical editor from Wilmington, DE, has 3 primary hobbies: hiking and working out, which allow her to participate in her other hobby—enjoying beer and wine!

Linda began hiking in 1990. Because her husband started working shift work and needed to sleep during the day and on weekends, Linda decided it would be best to find something that would get her out of the house for a few hours. What better way to spend those hours than to hike in the great outdoors!

Although Linda enjoys any place in the deep woods where she can find peace, her favorite trails are the Appalachian Trail in Maryland and the Conestoga Trail.

Linda heard about the Super Hike through her home club, the Wilmington Trail Club, a number of years ago. With past trail challenge experience at the HAM, MEGA, Hyner View Challenge, End-to-End, and the Ironmaster’s Challenge, she was excited to find a new way to push herself to the limit! Since then, she has participated in the Super Hike every year and considers herself a lifer for this event. On one of the Super Hikes, she nearly beat the oncoming rain as she hiked on the hills after Wind Cave. Thinking positively, Linda thought the rain felt great! She’s also met some great people on the Super Hike, which makes the experience even more fun!

This year, Linda signed up for the 29.6-mile Ultra Trail Run option. To train for the Super Hike, Linda plans to hike nearly every Saturday throughout the summer, run twice a week, swim, lift weights, and practice yoga. She is looking forward to another fun Super Hike this year, making more friends during the event, and enjoying the course’s unique challenges and beauty.

Good luck, Linda, and happy trails!
