Super Hiker Spotlight: Tonya Jones

By Sue-Ann Roades

Tonya Jones, from Boyertown, PA, works as an assistant manager at Liberty Thrift & Home Furnishings. Though much of her day is taken up with work, she still makes time for her many crafts, which include weaving, quilting, and crocheting. One of Tonya’s other interests is running on roads. She recently started trail running as well. For Tanya, the best parts of trail running are the diversity and the scenery—both better than what one can usually experience from a road.

Tonya heard about KTA from a friend’s father, who saw a sign-up sheet for the 2014 Super Hike at the local YMCA. She then got the idea to sign up with her friend, who was already an avid runner. They both felt doing the Super Hike together would be fun.

Tonya dived right in and signed up for the 29.6-mile Ultra Trail Run, which turned out to be her very first running event! To prepare for the event, she challenged herself by running on railroad tracks, trails, and roads. She plans to hike in the future with a coworker who also enjoys running. Maybe we’ll see them both at the next KTA hiking weekend! Best of luck, and happy trail running, Tonya!
