A.T. Specialty License Plates Coming Soon!

by Paige Miller, KTA Intern

In an exciting win last month for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) and hikers throughout the state, Pennsylvania will now join Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia on the list of states with official Appalachian Trail (AT) license plates.

Governor Tom Corbett signed House Bill 770 into law on March 19, 2014, which, among other things, guarantees that a portion of the cost of the specialty plates will be returned to the ATC each time a plate is purchased or renewed.

Money from the specialty plates directly funds ATC efforts to manage and preserve the Appalachian Trail; recently, the ATC announced that the revenue has exceeded one million dollars from Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee combined. As Pennsylvanian hikers, we are thrilled to be able to contribute to this fundraising effort.

Keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming news on when the AT plates will officially become available!
