Super Hiker Spotlight: Scott Brown, Bristol, PA

by Paige Miller, KTA Intern

Adventure race enthusiasts of varying degrees and experience are drawn to our Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run each year. Want to know who will be hitting the trails alongside you? Here's a spotlight on one of our veteran competitors, who will be back this year for more!

Scott Brown of Bristol, Pennsylvania, is a KTA Life Member, and will be one to watch out for in the 2014 29.6-mile Ultra Trail Run! An avid trail runner, he's participated in events such as the Laurel Highlands Ultra, Iron Master's Challenge, and Tussey Mountainback in State College. Scott's affinity for trail running developed from another passion of his: writing hiking guides for trails in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland. After his first few runs, Scott quickly found that flying over rocky terrain was both challenging and soothing to the soul, and he was hooked.

When asked if he would be running with any accomplices this year, Scott tells us that he's a one-man unit, as no one he knows is "crazy enough" to be an ultra trail runner. What you won't find him without on the trail are his Camelback hydration pack and Altra Zero Drop shoes.

This will be Scott's fourth time participating in the Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run, and most recently he finished in a swift seven hours and five minutes. So what makes Scott keep coming back each year? The challenging course, great volunteers, and last, but not least: the post-race picnic.

Scott, here's to making this year's challenge your personal best!
