100-Mile Profile: "Wild Bill" from Dover, PA

by Paige Miller, KTA Intern

This month we caught up with some of our participants in the 100-Mile Trail Challenge to see how everyone has been progressing towards meeting their goals. One William Brent, or better known on the trails as "Wild Bill," gave us the lowdown on his Challenge progress, as well as a little bit about his relationship with hiking.

Bill, a native of Whitestone, New York, and current transplant to Dover, Pennsylvania, recalls that his hiking history began fifteen years ago as a collegiate cross-country runner. He completed his pre-season training in Vermont, and this may have been where he initially caught the hiking bug. (We can’t say we blame him!)

Bill's most memorable hiking experience? The 2013 Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run came immediately to mind for this fierce competitor!

When asked why he decided to take KTA's 100-Mile Trail Challenge, Bill says that promoting fitness and weight loss challenges is a primary personal and professional goal, and he likes to lead by example. Bill and a friend recently started a social networking group on Facebook, White Rose Adventurers, which acts as a forum for members to set up impromptu hikes with other members.

This year, Wild Bill sightings may occur on the Mason Dixon Trail or around the lake at Pinchot Park, his usual spots where he plans to do most of his hiking to meet his challenge goal of 150 miles. Good luck, Bill! And as your favorite hiking quote goes: Journey On!
