Support KTA: Hiking in Morocco and Italy's Amalfi Coast

by Paul Shaw, Treks and Trails International (Trail Guardian Corporate Sponsor of Keystone Trails Association)

Treks & Trails International is donating $200 to KTA for each member who joins a Treks & Trails trip in 2014. Among the many exciting hiking destinations offered are the Atlas Mountains in Morocco (June 5-13) and the sun-splashed Amalfi Coast in Italy (June 18-28).

The Morocco hiking adventure begins with fascinating Marrakech as we explore the traditional markets (souks), gardens and palaces of this friendly medieval city. From Marrakech, participants will be transported to the nearby Atlas Mountains where they will hike from village to village led by a local guide, while staying in local Berber accommodations. Gear is transported by mule. The trek culminates in a non-technical guided ascent up Mt. Toubkal, which, at 13,667’, is the highest mountain in North Africa.

For those seeking a less challenging hiking experience, the Amalfi Coast beckons. Overlooking the Bay of Salerno, the Amalfi Coast is renowned for its whitewashed cliffside villages, dramatic seascapes, and awe-inspiring views. The trip includes two full days in Rome. Upon arrival at the charming village of Bomerano, participants will hike from village to village on Italy’s most famous hiking trail, the Sentiero degli Dei (“Footpath of the Gods”).

The cost for the Morocco Atlas Mountains trip is $1,795, and the Amalfi Coast trip costs $2,895. Costs include all in-country transportation, lodging, and most meals, but does not include airfare from the U.S.
