For nearly the past 12 years I have been reporting on ATC and our partners' battle to prevent the construction of a "country club for sports car enthusiasts" or "racetrack" known as Alpine Rose in Eldred Township, Monroe Co. After much negotiation and extensive behind-the-scenes work, the PA Game Commission announced in late April that they will be taking title to the property through the excellent work of our partners at the Wildlands Conservancy. A large portion of the funding came from a damage settlement at the nearby Palmerton Superfund site, with the remainder coming from a variety of sources, much of which was raised locally. The Wildlands Conservancy expects to close the deal by the beginning of June! This is a huge success story! |
