Super Hike Spotlight: The Singer Family

Over the years, KTA’s Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run have attracted a widely diverse group of folks who not only enjoy a personal challenge, but also the satisfaction that a trail can provide. Each month we will be profiling participants to illustrate the variety of people who take pleasure in this event.

The Singer family says they are counting down the days until KTA’s Superhike! Andrew Singer and his wife Michele from Baltimore County, MD, have enjoyed trail running since they met over two decades ago. With both of their careers rooted in the medical field, Andrew as a transplant surgeon and Michele as a pediatrician, they mutually understand the importance and reward of physical activity; they have been runners for years and have ran many marathons together. Now, both at the age of 47, they say that they are beginning to feel the physical strain of road running on their joints and bones, and have started to really appreciate long, strenuous hikes, which they have found result in fewer physical repercussions. Along with the reward of exercise, they enjoy the beauty of nature and the extended time spent together with one another, and with their children. Matthew Singer, age 16 and an avid cross-country runner and hiker, will be accompanying his parents on the 2013 Super Hike, and their 12-year-old daughter, Lauren, plans to join the rest of her family next year!
