A Novel Funding Approach

by Curt Ashenfelter, Executive Director
KTA continues to work for local clubs in Harrisburg before state government on a number of issues important to local clubs. To pay for this effort, a number of local clubs have been supportive of increased membership dues, and have voluntarily sent KTA annual dues of $300, $500 and $800.
If your club has struggled to find Board support or revenues for increasing dues, perhaps you might follow the example of one KTA member who also belongs to the Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club. The KTA/SATC member (who wishes to remain anonymous) informed the SATC president who announced at a club meeting, and later publicized in the local club newsletter, that they would match any and all individual local club contributions to the Keystone Trails Association in 2012. Members at the club were alerted to the opportunity to “double” their contribution to KTA by making the contribution in 2012. Six SATC members donated $5,650 to KTA. The KTA/SATC member then matched the contribution with another $5,650, so the total benefit to KTA was $11,300!
If you would like to participate in the KTA Donor Match Program, and maximize your contribution's value, while encouraging members of your local club to contribute at the state (KTA) level, please contact Curt Ashenfelter at 717 418 4661 or email at ktahike@verizon.net. If $5,650 is beyond your financial resources, the contribution can be capped at $1,000, $500, or whatever level is appropriate to your financial situation. If you would like to remain anonymous, we can take steps to accommodate that as well.
