She Took the Challenge, Will You?

Raised in Indiana in an Amish/ Mennonite community, Deb Watson's closest experience with hiking was getting lost in cornfields; she reports that going walking "for fun" would have been considered crazy! However, at the age of 56, and living now in Lancaster, PA, Deb has found a passion for hiking, one which she says facilitates her closeness to nature.

Deb became involved with KTA by doing research on the web, and has decided to participate in the KTA 2013 100-Mile Trail Challenge. Deb says this will help her become motivated to spend more time on the trails. Although still unsure which trails she would like to traverse for the Challenge, she says she enjoys old forest trails with scenic hills, big rocks, and streams. Deb is also an avid painter who draws inspiration from the wilderness. Just as the artists of the southwest have romanticized the "cowboys and Indians," she would like to bring recognition to the trails on our side of the country through painting. Her website can be found at www.debwatson.org, and she invites anyone to send her hiking photos that she can use as inspiration for her painting.
