Sustainer's Circle: Bob Fromme, Jr.

Over the past three years, Bob has provided free "Trail Magic" to a total 253 Appalachian Trail thru-hikers. His rest stop is near the base of Peter's Mountain, midway between a 30-mile stretch of trail between Duncannon in Perry County, and Swatara State Park in Lebanon County. For north-bounders, who are the majority of hikers at that time of the year, Bob's rest stop is the last road crossing they will see for 15 miles, the longest stretch of wilderness in Pennsylvania on the Appalachian Trail. For south-bounders, Bob's rest stop is a welcome sight after 129 miles of ridge walking from the Delaware Water Gap.

He serves hikers a hearty and delicious menu of home-made deviled eggs, lemonade, pasta salad, turkey salad, trail bars, fresh and packaged fruit, pretzels, and chocolate peanut-butter cupcakes, among other things. Bob has made and served over 660 deviled eggs! While most Americans know what devilled eggs are, one Brit confessed to confusion, but soon fell in love with Bob's specialty treat. His "magic" days have provided him with an opportunity to meet a variety of interesting people, including a former marine bomb-defuser, 74-year-old identical twins, and a married couple hailing from Germany. Read more about Bob's Trail Magic in an article by the Sentinel.

Bob Fromme is one of Keystone Trails Association's most ardent supporters, as both a volunteer and a founding member of KTA's Sustainer's Circle. On October 3, 2012, KTA received a $5,000 contribution from Bob. He wrote: "Life is made full through pleasant memories. The KTA achieves that goal by fellowship, education and preservation of our hiking trails. In no small way you have performed superbly in your capacity to inform, delegate and make possible the KTA's present success. My latest donation is made with faith in the organization's ability to keep the trails alive and relevant. I appreciate everything you do."

Keystone Trails Association is Pennsylvania's only organization that advocates for trails across Pennsylvania. KTA's Sustainer's Circle is currently comprised of a small group of individuals that prioritize Keystone Trails Association's mission of providing, preserving, protecting, and promoting recreational hiking trails and hiking opportunities in Pennsylvania, through substantial gifts of $5,000 or more. To join Bob as a Sustainer, please contact Curt Ashenfelter, Executive Director, at 717-238-7017. Thank you, Bob, for your generosity, your confidence in Keystone Trails Association, and your support of our mission.
