Code Orange Update

by Ed Lawrence, KTA Trail Care Chair

A quartet of volunteers from KTA returned to Doubling Gap in the sinuous Blue Mountain on August 8, 2012, to help upgrade the hiking opportunities at Colonel Denning State Park.

This was the second year that the Code Orange Trail Care Program brought its banner to Cumberland County in order to bolster the quality of the parks footpaths.  Participants again had the opportunity to enjoy a reserved camping area both Friday and Saturday nights, provided by Park Manager Heather Bollinger, who also furnished a delectable lunch spread. Virginia Musser and Catherine McLaughlin spent the day lopping and clearing the looping Rattlesnake Trail,  while Tony Robbins and Ed Lawrence reworked a number of rock water bars, originally set by CCCers, and cleaned and reconfigured a stream crossing on the trail leading out of the park to the famous "wagon wheel" junction and Flat Rock Vista.  The volunteers contributed 32 hours to the park's trail system.
