Message from the Director, by Curt Ashenfelter

Keystone Trails Association’s membership is, to say the least, diverse.  We range in age, gender, occupation, and geography.  One thing, however, we all have in common:  we love to hike.  In particular:  We love to hike on Pennsylvania’s trails!

Admittedly, our Commonwealth’s hiking trails aren’t the top destination for Earth’s hikers.  KTA’s members know, though, that just because our mountains aren’t the highest in the world-and the views not the most spectacular on the planet-that our footpaths are unique, challenging, and provide absolutely breathtaking views of Pennsylvania’s gorges, rivers, hills, farmlands, and-yes-small towns and cities.

Hikers that have spent time on our trails are privy to this secret, and know that there are many spectacular gems to be found right here at home.  From the Appalachian Trail to the Mid State Trail, from the North Country Trail to the Quehanna Trail, and everywhere in between, our state is chock-full of rugged and beautiful trails!

As a member of Keystone Trails Association, you are provided with a unique opportunity to explore a variety of trails at our spring, fall, and summer hiking weekends; access up-to-date information about trails both new and familiar to you; “give back” to your trails through our Trail Care and Advocacy programs; and connect to a strong, state-wide community of hikers via our Facebook page, our digital monthly newsletter, and in-person at our events!

In addition, the presence of this strong, unified hiking community in Pennsylvania-the backbone of KTA’s Advocacy Program-provides individual hikers and hiking trails with a voice in state legislature, with the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and with the State Game Commission.

The KTA membership year ends September 30, 2012.  Please renew your membership today, and join forces with nearly two thousand other hikers that think Pennsylvania’s trails are something special!   Thank you in advance for your continued support.
