Building Bridges on the Mid State Trail

The Keystone Trails Association recently held a trail care weekend on the Mid State Trail in the State College region from September 18-20, 2009.

Trail care volunteers worked to rebuild a footbridge with a 20-foot span in Greens Valley, Bald Eagle State Forest. The new bridge is located about 1.5 km from the closest road access; all tools and materials had to be carried to the worksite. A second bridge used by the Greenwood Spur in back of Camp Reynard was also repaired. The bridge was damaged by floodwater in the spring. Volunteers also brushwhacked sections of the trail.

There were 17 volunteers at the trail care weekend, which was organized by Tom Thwaites. Volunteers camped at Poe Paddy State Park.
