A Better Path Forward: Report from The Old Loggers Path

by Ann Pinca, Save the Loyalsock Coalition

Autumn weather is here for sure, and though it wasn't a beautifully crisp fall day for our event in the Loyalsock State Forest on October 2, I think all present had a good day in the woods. A big thank you to the Coalition members who helped to make this a great outing!

We began in historic Masten (click to read a brief history) with brief presentations on drilling impacts and efforts for stream maintenance and restoration in the Clarence Moore lands. Then everyone hit the Old Loggers Path for just under a four-mile hike, stopping along the way to make note of tree species, springs, nearby bogs, and the remnants of old logging roads and rail beds.

The day was misty but not raining, which created a lovely freshly-washed appearance to the forest and also provided a bumper crop of, as we learned from one of our guests, edible mushrooms. Our day was well documented through photographs, which we look forward to seeing in the future. For now, please enjoy these few images from the day. It was agreed by many that we should do this again, so maybe we'll have another opportunity to walk the Old Loggers Path together in the future.
