SUNDAY HUNTING AMENDMENT REPORT

by Joe Neville, KTA Executive Director

On September 20, the House Game and Fisheries Committee met to consider a number of bills relating to the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) and the Fish and Boat Commission. Before the meeting, KTA staff reviewed the agenda and found nothing of interest to consider.

However, during the meeting, an amendment was introduced to repeal the prohibition on Sunday hunting. Introduced into Senate Bill 1166 to increase the PGC hunting license fee, the amendment changed the Game Code to allow the PGC to institute Sunday hunting via regulation and remove the statutory prohibition on Sunday hunting. The amendment wasn’t considered germane to the intent of the bill and failed on primarily a party-line vote. Had it passed, we still would have had adequate time to oppose it. This should be the last attempt to institute Sunday hunting this legislative session.
