BELTZVILLE STATE PARK AUGUST 6 CODE ORANGE WORKDAY

by Ed Lawrence

Beltzville State Park, just east of Jim Thorpe in Carbon County, is working to upgrade its hiking trails, and Park Manager Devin Buzard has asked KTA Trail Care for help. Volunteers are needed to make this August 6 Code Orange Workday a success to help create a safer, more enjoyable hiking experience for park visitors. Volunteers will gather at the park office, off Pohopoco Drive, at 8:30 AM before heading out to the work site on the Trinity Gorge Trail. Work will include some lopping, blaze painting, and brushwhacking; however, the main task will be to dig in a system of switchbacks on a side hill to replace a short, steep section of trail. Your help to complete this work in 1 day is essential. Please volunteer and support KTA’s efforts to improve hiking opportunities in our state parks. Although there are no camping facilities at Beltzville, volunteers can camp both Friday and Saturday nights for free at nearby Hickory Run State Park. Hope to see you there.
