CHERRY RUN BRIDGE WORK - MAY UPDATE, 2016

by Ed Lawrence, Mid State Trail Association

A Mid State Trail hiker and KTA Trail Care volunteer is seen here weighing her crossing options along side the collapsing bridge over Cherry Run north of the Poe Paddy tunnel. The Mid State Trail Association is working with Bald Eagle State Forest personnel to replace the bridge, which will require using two new, 40-foot long, telephone poles as stringers. Forestry is currently doing the required background and design work and lining up the materials that will be needed to construct the new bridge. They will also take the lead in 'setting' the poles. Volunteers, however, will be needed to actually do the build. If you are interested in getting first hand experience in bridge building contact the KTA office to have your name added to the list and you will be notified when the project moves forward. Your help will be much appreciated by hikers on both sides of Cherry Run.
