POE PADDY TUNNEL DEDICATION: MAY 19

by Terry Brady, DCNR Press Secretary

From the Press Release:

Please join the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and its partners at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, as we dedicate the newly renovated Poe Paddy Tunnel and trestle, and Mid State Trail section on the Centre-Mifflin-Union county line.

It should be a fun -- and very important -- event, with attendees and speakers invited from the Keystone Trails Association; the state Fish and Boat Commission and Game Commission; our bureaus of Forestry and State Parks; and the Weikert-area community.

Enveloped by Bald Eagle State Forest, this truly was a collaborative project involving many departments and agencies. Anglers and hunters, hikers, bikers and boaters all share in these major improvements along the nationally recognized Penns Creek.

A note on getting there: Anyone coming south on Route 45 certainly can come in from Coburn and park on the Poe Paddy State Park side of the tunnel.

They would then just have to pass over the trestle bridge and through the tunnel to the other side where the event will be held.

That side is much more attractive; bat habitat modifications are on that side; and traveling ( either by provided shuttle or in their own cars) to the  tunnel from the Weikert side will afford first first-time visitors an incredible look at the valley from the Mid State.
