JEFF’S JAUNTS: ROUGH HILL TRAIL AND SANDY BOTTOM

by Jeff Mitchell, KTA Board of Directors

I hiked the beautiful Rough Hill Trail, a new trail in the Loyalsock State Forest. The trail featured beautiful forests of pine, laurel, moss, and hemlock. The views were beautiful as the distinctive peak of Smiths Knob rose in the distance. On the descent I passed large boulders and a dark cave entrance. I then hiked around Sandy Bottom, with its diverse forests and some large trees. I walked along the shore of the Loyalsock Creek and saw bear tracks in the mud. The views from the creek were great with canyon-like scenery. The water was very clear. I then headed home, but stopped by High Knob to see the sun set. A great day in this wonderful state forest.
