TRAIL CARE BLUE MOON WEEKEND

By Ed Lawrence, KTA Trail Care Chair

In the wake of the final blue moon until 2018 a KTA Code Orange Trail Care rolled into Tyler State Park on Sat. August 1st. A joint task force of experienced volunteers; part local park supporters, part Delaware Valley AMC members, and part KTA members including a Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club representative, gathered under the leadership of Park Manager Brian Flores to upgrade the 'Hiking Only' nature trail just west of the pedestrian causeway. With perfect weather, a focused game plan and high spirits the 14 member crew was able to work through all the projects that Brian had hoped to accomplish that day. Volunteers planted a new sign post at the trail head, rerouted a section of the trail away from a collapsing part of the stream bank, spanned one gullied area with a stone step-across and another with split-log bridging, completed a natural stone step-down with additional rock placements, smoothed out a stoney section of the trail and opened the trail corridor from encroaching vegetation. The trail improvements will enhance the hiking experience of all the park visitors who want to take a walk on Tylers' wild side. Thanks to all who participated for their good work.
