ATC CONSERVATION DESIGN WORKSHOP

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-PA), is pleased to present “Writing Growing Greener: Conservation by Design Codes,” a workshop geared toward planning professionals who write zoning and subdivision/land development codes. The event will be held from 9 AM to 4:30 PM on Tuesday, March 24 in the Education Building at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, PA.

Renowned conservation design experts Randall Arendt, FRTPI, ASLA (Hon.) and Ann Hutchinson, AICP, of Natural Lands Trust will lead the workshop. John Rogers of Keystone Conservation Trust and Becky Bradley, AICP, of Lehigh Valley Planning Commission will teach a segment on the economics of conservation. By attending the workshop, American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) members are eligible for 4.75 CM credits.

“Development pressures threaten woodlands and waterways throughout Pennsylvania, but there are tools available which can balance development with conservation to preserve connectivity,” said Appalachain Trail Conservancy Environmental Planner Alicia Riegel-Kanth. “During this workshop, proven experts will teach attendees how to write land use regulations that manage growth and conserve land, as well as understand best practices in designing a conservation subdivision.”

The registration fee is $25 per person, which includes lunch. There will be a hike on the Hawk Mountain grounds after lunch; please dress casually with footwear suitable for hiking, and bring a water bottle.  Register online at https://eventbrite.com/event/15221604228/, or participants may download a workshop brochure from www.planningpa.org. The brochure includes the registration form and instructions for submission and payment.
