14th ANNUAL PA HIKING WEEK

DCNR has once again teamed with the Keystone Trails Association (KTA) to offer nearly 100 organized, guided hikes and trail-walks throughout Pennsylvania during Pennsylvania Hiking Week, from Saturday, May 30, 2015 through Sunday, June 07, 2015, and encompassing National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6.

Most hikes will be scheduled for the two weekends of the event, but several weekday and evening hikes will also be offered. Special hikes include night hikes; wildflower walks; hikes for people with disabilities; pet walks; geology walks and much more.  Hikes will primarily take place in state parks and state forests, with some hikes scheduled on the Appalachian Trail, in Allegheny National Forest, and in city and community parks.

Hikes will be of all lengths and difficulties, for hardened veterans and novice hikers alike.   For those new to hiking, PA Hiking Week provides a great opportunity to learn the skills necessary for a safe day outdoors. We recommend that beginner hikers contact the designated hike leader to confirm that they have picked a hike that is right for them — whether that is steep or flat, long or short – and to ask for suggestions regarding appropriate gear (boots or shoes, hiking stick, snacks, water bottle, etc.) for that specific hike.
