ENDANGERED PA TRAIL RECEIVES DEDICATED GUIDEBOOK

By Scott Adams

The Old Loggers Path (OLP) is a great walking path for beginner and experienced hikers alike. This looped trail explores the Loyalsock State Forest for 27.8 miles. It is fairly easy to access this state forest, which lies northeast of Williamsport, PA.

One of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful mountain streams, Rock Run, is considered to be the highlight of the OLP. Other highlights include: Masten Ghost Town, Sprout Point Vista, Sharp Top Vista, and Sullivan Mountain.

The new Old Loggers Path Guide (ISBN 9780986235904) by Dave Gantz provides detailed advice for hiking the OLP. Turn-by-turn instructions and photos provide you with the information you need to enjoy the trail. The guide book also includes a full color, waterproof map to assist you on your adventure.

The Loyalsock State Forest is utilized for natural gas extraction. There are many drilling sites being planned for this area right now. Some groups claim that the Old Loggers Path itself will be disturbed and forced to make several relocations. Hopefully this is not the case, but be sure to enjoy the trail while you can; this forest area could be gone within a few years.

Outdoor enthusiasts looking to purchase a copy of the Old Loggers Path Guide can find it in KTA’s online store.
