IT'S HUNTING SEASON IN PA

by Jim Foster, Secretary, KTA Board of Directors

Fall begins an important time for our friends in the sportsman community, as many hunting seasons are now in effect. But this doesn’t mean that hikers need to leave the woods. They should just take a few precautions.

First, be aware of what seasons are in effect at any given time. Pennsylvania's hunting seasons are listed on the PA Game Commission's website.

Second, all hikers should wear blaze orange when they are in the woods during any hunting season. Consider wearing a blaze orange hat, vest, or both. Here is a link to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s recommendations on how much blaze orange to wear during the various hunting seasons.

Third, experienced hunters know that all hunting seasons are not the same. Hikers should be particularly careful during seasons when hunters are using rifles and when many hunters will be in the woods. The most popular hunting season is deer season; this year, across most of Pennsylvania, this is from December 1 to 13.

Feel free to contact the KTA with questions about Pennsylvania’s hunting seasons.
